Eve and Jesus were tempted in the same ways – physical need, emotional need, and psychological need. Eve gave into temptation, but Jesus did not. How? He knew God’s Word and obeyed it.
1. Physical Desire: Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4
2. Possessions and Power: Jesus answered him, It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test. Matthew 4:7
3. Pride: Jesus said to him, Away from me Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only. Matthew 4:10
We will be tempted in these three ways too. Satan tempts us typically when we are most vulnerable – hungry, tired, or alone. But we too can overcome temptation by knowing Scripture and turning to God for strength. The temptation will come in the garden and in the desert and everywhere in between.
Be alert and ready Sister. And together we pray Lord, “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” (Matthew 6:13) Amen.
