S4E17 Show Notes: How God Loves Us with Jessica Thompson

by | Apr 26, 2022 | The Love Offering Podcast Show Notes

The fruit of the Spirit isn’t just something we display. It’s the way God loves us! Every Christian cherishes the famous passage in Galatians 5:22–23 that lists the fruit of the Spirit. Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. And self-control. These are the marks of godly character that we strive to display. But has it ever occurred to you that these are also the characteristics of God? Can it be that God loves us with the fruit of the Spirit? And only when we are secure in that love can we display it to others?

Jessica Thompson is on the show today talking about the deeper love that your Heavenly Father has for you. Focusing on the majority of the fruit of the Spirit, she shows how God Himself has these attributes and lavishes them on us. Join us as we behold who He is and the nature of His love. Then prayerfully, by the work of the Spirit, we will become like Him.

“I learned very early on that the way to have everyone approve of me and love me was to play the good girl and I did it with everything I had.”

“We need a goodness that doesn’t come from ourselves. We need a goodness that comes from outside of ourselves to save us. Jesus is that goodness.”

“It’s not about my goodness. It’s about the goodness of Jesus Christ.”

“We’ve reduced the fruit of the Spirit to a checklist of good behaviors. It’s not the fruit of trying harder, it’s the fruit of the Spirit.”

“40 days straight of thinking about how God loves us.”

Lisa TerKeurst’s book More Than a Good Bible Study Girl.

“From eternity past to eternity future, you are loved.”

Hephzibah –  Isaiah 62:4-5 – my delight is in you. “That’s the way God feels about us.”

“Shalom means wholeness. An all-encompassing peace.”

“The more we understand God’s patience towards us, the more we will be able to display that patience to others.”

“God’s kindness is our protection.”

“God can be nothing but good towards us. His goodness is pursuing you.”

The Chosen

“Does God have to exercise self-control?”

“We will continue to mess up because that is who we are but we will be quicker to recognize our sinfulness and run back to our Savior.”

“We are not quick to repent because we are afraid of what awaits us. We either try to make it up to God or we ignore God and distance ourselves from Him hoping He will forget. All the while, He welcomes us.”

“My hope is that you would fall in love with Jesus. He has never stopped loving you.”

“To be a love offering, remember that you are loved.”
