An Everlasting Love by Alexis A. Goring

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”

– Jeremiah 31:3 NIV

Years ago, my Dad said that the reason why kids join gangs is because they didn’t know that somebody loves them. Recently, I remembered his words and thought about a spiritual parallel.

The God of the Universe loves us with all of His Heart, but how often do we move through life operating as if our Maker doesn’t exist? Do we not believe that we are loved by Him?

The Bible says that our Heavenly Father’s love for us is “everlasting” (Jeremiah 31:3). Let’s unpack this verse. I’ve heard Christian leaders say, “There’s nothing we can do to make God love us less, and there’s nothing we can do to make God love us more.”

But how frequently do we strive and try to work our way into God’s good graces? His Heart already loves us forever. All He wants is our obedience and trust. When you love God and obey Him, you really will live an abundant life (John 10:10).

They say that parents understand this concept of unconditional love the most because they love their child even when they make mistakes or misbehave. Because of the brokenness of the world, not every child knows what it’s like to have healthy relationships with their parents. However, we have hope because we have God! He is what contemporary Christian musician Chris Tomlin calls a “Good, Good Father” who loves us forever.

So how can we as Daughters of God the King, and the apples of our Heavenly Father’s eye, love others well? How can we show everyone who is hurting—especially impressionable youth—that they have a Good Father who loves them and wants to be there for them? Can we show them that He’s a Father who will never leave nor forsake them (Hebrews 13:5)?

I believe we can do this by first filling ourselves with Scripture and prayer, seeking the Father’s will for our daily lives. Next, we can pray for opportunities to show someone how much God loves them. This can be done through our words and actions. Finally, we can be led by the Holy Spirit to do little things like being kind to everyone we meet or paying extra offerings in church along with our tithe. Our little acts and words of kindness can fill someone’s heart with the most beautiful offering of God’s love.

I want God to use me to show everyone how much they are loved by Him. Do you, too?
