The Friendship Your Heart Has Been Longing For with Becky Harling

by | Jun 30, 2026 | The Love Offering Podcast Show Notes

Friendship is one of God’s greatest gifts, yet many women quietly struggle with loneliness, disconnectedness, or the longing for deeper relationships. In a world that keeps us busy, distracted, and constantly comparing ourselves to others, cultivating meaningful friendships often feels more difficult than ever.

In this week’s episode of The Love Offering Podcast, I had the joy of welcoming my dear friend, bestselling author and speaker Becky Harling, to discuss her newest book, Friendwise. Together, we explored what Scripture teaches about building healthy, lasting friendships that reflect the heart of Christ.

Drawing wisdom from the book of Proverbs, Becky reminds us that friendships don’t happen by accident—they require intentionality, humility, grace, and truth. We talked about why friendships are vital not only for our spiritual and emotional health but even for our physical well-being. Research continues to affirm what God has known all along: we were created for relationship.

One of the most encouraging reminders from our conversation was that Jesus is our truest Friend. Before we can love others well, we must first rest securely in the friendship He offers us—a relationship marked by unwavering faithfulness, sacrificial love, and constant presence. When our identity is rooted in Him, we are free to pursue friendships without fear, comparison, or insecurity.

We also discussed practical ways to cultivate stronger relationships, including:

  • Becoming intentional instead of waiting for friendship to happen.
  • Practicing healthy boundaries that protect relationships rather than hinder them.
  • Choosing vulnerability with trustworthy friends.
  • Offering forgiveness instead of holding onto offense.
  • Speaking truth with love while leading with encouragement.
  • Celebrating the successes of others rather than comparing ourselves to them.
  • Becoming the kind of friend we hope to have.

One statement Becky shared has stayed with me:

“Be the friend you’re looking for.”

It’s such simple wisdom, yet incredibly powerful. Instead of waiting for someone else to reach out, perhaps God is inviting us to take the first step. Send the text. Make the phone call. Invite someone to coffee. Ask thoughtful questions. Listen well. Encourage generously. Those small acts of love often become the foundation of lifelong friendships.

If you’ve been feeling lonely, longing for deeper community, or simply wanting to strengthen the friendships you already have, I pray this conversation encourages you. God’s design has always been for His children to walk together, bearing one another’s burdens, rejoicing with one another, and pointing each other toward Christ.

I’d love for you to listen to this encouraging conversation with Becky and share it with a friend who could use a little encouragement today.
