S4E4 Show Notes: Doing What Matters Most with Somer Phoebus and Michelle Myers

by | Jan 25, 2022 | The Love Offering Podcast Show Notes

It is so hard to juggle work, home, and spiritual life. How can we be effective in our work, and stay committed to the Gospel? How can we be dedicated to our family, when our jobs are so demanding? Why are we working so hard, and still so unfulfilled?

We see a culture that promotes success at all costs, and working women are falling for it. It’s happening every day. Priorities are shifting. Things are getting done . . . but are we doing what matters most?

She Works His Way founders Somer Phoebus and Michelle Myers are on the show today telling the story of how they traded the lies of the world for the truth of our loving Father–the lessons they learned that challenged culture’s “good things” so they could find the greatest thing.

Join us for a conversation that pushes back against our culture with a Gospel-centered approach to work and womanhood, for the glory of God and the good of others. Let’s get to work. His way.

Quotes:

“I started working when I was fifteen. From that point on I knew I loved to work.” Somer Phoebus

“No matter what industry you are in, the struggles are the same. We are all desperate to have the same conversations. The gospel is the unifier and is the thing that brings us together.” Michelle Myers

“We were not designed to have balanced lives. The Bible says to seek first God and all of these things will be added unto you. It is an order that we are called to live in. Peace is a person. We have to go to God Himself.” Michelle Myers

“Overwhelm is my cypionate. When we are overwhelmed we think we need to quit something. It isn’t our circumstances. It is our soul. Jesus is the only way to fulfillment.” Somer Phoebus

“The world is not going to praise you for the stuff that is unseen. Don’t minimize the exclusive assignment God has given to you. You always have to do what is important. Sometimes the country had to wait. Sometimes things have to wait to pursue the hearts of what matters most. Our customers shouldn’t get perks that our family doesn’t.” Michelle Myers

“Culture is not our enemy. Humans need Jesus. We should not expect an unbeliever to act like a believer. Who do I hear from most? What do I let into my brain and heart? Make sure the voice you are listening to most is God. Does this please you, God?” Somer Phoebus

“Paul was a tentmaker to provide for his ministry. I have a skill or job to do but the sole purpose is for me to see the people God has put in my path, to build gospel relationships, and to provide for my family so we can be disciples and further God’s mission.” Michelle Myers

“We leave margin in our schedules for hobbies and rest but sometimes we forget to leave margin for people. People are the entire point. If we don’t have margin for people we don’t have margin for the great commission.” Somer Phoebus

“Do not be called teachers or leaders. In Matthew 23 it doesn’t say don’t teach or lead. It says you don’t need the title. Don’t do it for what you get out of it. You make the biggest difference when you serve. Go where God leads then inevitably we serve people which in turn leads them.” Michelle Myers

“You have to consider Jesus and then practice His presence.” Somer Phoebus

“Love is the verb that keeps the church in check. Love is a decision and choice. If you want to increase your significance, increase your love.” Michelle Myers
