Releasing My Plans for His by Marjie Metz

by | Apr 6, 2023 | The Love Offering Guest Blog Series

If I’m being completely honest, I feel like a failure. I’m not where I planned to be at this point in my life. I envisioned having a highly profitable coaching business, lots of engagements lined up, and being able to choose how I want to spend my “extra” money.

As I take these concerns to the Lord in prayer and reflect on my journey, I can see him leading me. I remember specific times when I said yes to an opportunity that was not in my plan, but I could sense it was a part of his.

“Write your story”

Lord, I’m not a writer.

“Write your story.”

Ok, Lord, if you are calling me to do this, you will need to help me. You know I’m not a formal writer, but I’m willing to try if it will help someone.

“I’m putting on a Mental Health Workshop, would you like to come and share?”

Well, I don’t feel qualified, but I’m willing to share if it will help someone.

“I think you should check out this ministry that offers a fitness certification.”

I don’t know if I have the right personality or skill set for that, but I’m willing to try if it can help and encourage someone.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

In light of this scripture, my heart is settled. No, I may not be where I planned to be … but, I think that’s the point. I’m right where He planned for me to be. Each opportunity steered me in a different direction AND brought more clarity to the gifts and talents He has placed inside of me. I would have missed this clarity had I said no because it wasn’t a part of my plan.

“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21

The Lord has been shifting my focus from numbers … to hearts. Rather than, “How much money can I make?” it’s “How many hearts can I impact?”

While trying to release my number goals and embrace this shift in focus, I journaled about my fear of not bringing in enough income. The Lord gently reminded me of Matthew 6:33, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

I may not be where I planned to be, but I’m right where He planned for me to be. In light of his kingdom and eternity, that’s right where I want to be.
