Finding Your Voice: The Courage to Speak and Make an Impact by Leslie Davis

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” Psalm 150:6

The room was already alive with worship after the song Lion was sung, but something shifted even more deeply when we began singing the bridge of Gratitude by Brandon Lake:

“Come on my soul, don’t you get shy on me.

Lift up your song.

You’ve got a lion inside of those lungs—

Get up and praise the Lord.”

As those words rose, I felt the presence of God thicken in the room. Then, in a moment that felt compelling and weighty, the Lord opened my vision.

I saw the Lion of Judah. I saw the connection between His roar and the sound we release in praise. His power wasn’t descending from above as something distant. It was a roar rising from within, moving through His people, one voice at a time.

As I continued singing, the Lord began highlighting individuals in the congregation. One by one, I felt prompted to point and sing the words to them as an activation to release the roar within.

“You’ve got a Lion inside of those lungs.”

And they responded.

Some shouted the name of Jesus.

Some wept.

Some roared with a freedom they had never expressed before.

Some danced, unrestrained and radiant.

What started as individual obedience became a collective fire. Praise leapt from heart to heart until the sound filled the room—strong, unified, alive.

Then the Lord spoke quietly but clearly to my spirit: “The voice of the Lion is as the sound of many waters. This is My roar on the earth. Each soul carries a part of My sound.”

Love That Refuses to Stay Silent

Later, as I searched Scripture, I discovered that “many waters” is often used to describe the roar of nations—people crying out, sometimes in chaos, sometimes in battle. But in Revelation, the imagery shifts.

John describes the voice of Jesus as “like the sound of rushing waters” (Revelation 1:15, NIV).

Not the voice of destruction as before, but the voice of authority, unity, and redeemed power. The roar of a nation praising their King.

In that moment, something settled deep within me:

God’s love stirs us when truth is required.

Love releases when freedom is at stake.

And Love does not allow His people to remain silenced.

So many women carry faith quietly—afraid of being too much or not enough, worried about being misunderstood, or convinced their voice doesn’t matter. We learn to soften the sound God placed inside us in order to stay safe, agreeable, or accepted.

But Scripture tells a different story.

“Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it,” the Lord says (Psalm 81:10, ESV).

God’s love fills us first, but it is never meant to stop there. Love becomes an offering through expression.

A Love Offering Begins With Being Filled

The call to love others well begins with being filled—with truth, with healing, with the assurance of God’s nearness.

When we allow Jesus to meet us in the places where our voice was shut down—by pain, fear, trauma, or disappointment—He restores more than confidence. He restores authority.

Authority rooted in love.

Love anchored in truth.

Truth expressed through obedience.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that “the love of Christ compels us” (2 Corinthians 5:14, NIV). Love moves us. It presses us forward. It gives us courage to speak when silence would be easier.

A love offering is about alignment: when our inner world is aligned with God’s heart, our voice naturally carries His frequency.

You Carry a Sound the World Needs

The Lord impressed something else on my heart that day, something I believe is meant for every woman who feels hesitant to step forward:

You are not meant to carry the full roar alone, and you are created to release His heart. You have been entrusted with His love, His truth, and His presence in a way only you can carry. You may be the only expression of Jesus that the person in front of you encounters. “From everyone who has been given much, much will be required” (Luke 12:48, NIV)

When one voice rises in obedience, it awakens courage in others. When one woman says yes, it gives permission for another to do the same. God’s love multiplies as one willing heart becomes a spark—igniting a holy fire that spreads from heart to heart.

Romans tells us that “the creation waits in eager expectation for the sons and daughters of God to be revealed” (Romans 8:19, NIV). That revealing doesn’t happen when we hide. It happens when love emboldens us to show up fully as who God created us to be.

An Invitation to Respond

Maybe you’ve felt that stirring—the nudge to speak, to pray aloud, to encourage someone, to step into a calling that feels bigger than you.

If so, let me remind you:

You are not too much.

You are not unqualified.

You are not late.

You are filled with the Spirit of God, and His love is alive within you.

A love offering doesn’t require a platform. It requires a willing heart.

So take a breath.

Lift your eyes.

And let your voice rise!

Because when love finds its voice, the sound carries farther than we could ever imagine.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” (Psalm 150:6, NIV)

And friend—

You have breath.

You have a voice.
