Live Like It Matters: Intentional Living In A Distracted World by Dana Hanks

What if the small things you do today matter more than you know?

I used to think intentionality was only needed in the big moments. The life-changing decisions. The brave yeses. The new beginnings. However, over time, I have come to realize that the most powerful kind of intentionality is often found in the quiet, everyday choices, the simple moments that don’t have a platform, a big audience, accolades, or achievements.

It is in the way we pause to really listen to our kids. It is in the moment we check in on a friend instead of scrolling past her message. It is in the way we choose presence over distraction. These are the choices that build a life of meaning.

When we live with intention, we live awake. We begin to see the beauty in the blur. The way the sun hits the floor in the morning. The quiet strength it takes to keep showing up. The small miracles that God plants right in the middle of ordinary moments. This is where faith becomes more than a word. It becomes a way of living.

Ephesians 5:15-6 reminds us, “Be very careful, then, how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”

That verse has become a source of comfort and an anchor for me. Not because I live it out perfectly, but because I want to make the most of this beautiful life I have been given. I want to be a woman who notices the now. Who trusts God in the in-between. Who steps forward in faith, even when the road ahead isn’t perfectly clear.

Intentionality can serve as a safeguard against the enticing distractions of this world, which can so easily lead us astray. Intentional living will help to keep you on the path God has called you to even when you don’t have all of the answers. Living intentionally will enable you to step out in faith, trusting God with all the unknowns ahead.

There will never be a perfect time to begin. Never a perfect moment to start the dream, have the hard conversation, or take the next step. If you are waiting for everything to fall into place, you will wait forever. But when you step forward in faith, God meets you there.

Intentional living is not about having a flawless plan. It is about aligning your actions with what matters most. It is choosing what to carry and what to release. Intentional living is showing up with purpose, even when life feels messy or your path ahead seems unclear.

You do not need a perfect schedule or more hours in the day. You just need a heart that is willing. A willingness to look around and ask, What is one thing I can do today to live like it matters?

God did not create you to drift. He created you to live fully, freely, and intentionally. With presence. With courage. With hope.

So take the walk. Make the call. Write the book. Give the hug. Speak the truth. Start the thing.

God is not asking you to do more; He is asking you to make the most of the life He has blessed you with. He invites you to trust Him in the midst of it all and let Him meet you where you are.

Because your ordinary obedience can become something extraordinary in His hands.
