Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.-Lamentations 3:22-23
If you are anything like me, at night, my mind wanders to all the events of the day. Oftentimes than not, my mind goes to everything I may have done wrong in the day. I typically think of how I could have handled a situation parenting better that day. Or how I could have responded to one of my kids or husband better that day. I recall the happy moments as well. But then, those negative ones creep back in and I am now laying there wide awake, feeling like a failure.
One night, I decided I had had enough of this. Not only was I exhausted, which never lets one be their best self, I knew I needed God’s guidance to help me combat this nightly routine I had gotten myself into. I also needed God’s guidance to help me see that it’s not failing but trying.
This was when I came across Lamentations 3:22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.”
God’s love for us never fails nor forsakes us. God chose my husband, and God chose me to be the momma to my kids. No one else holds these very important roles I am blessed to live. God gave me these roles because of his love for me. His love for me has never failed and never will.
The amazing love God has for you has provided you with the ones you love, too. You have special roles in your life that you and only you can fill. He knew exactly who he would give you in your life.
So when we think we are failing at our important roles, we must remind ourselves that God is with us through it all. Instead of looking at every situation as a failure, we can see it as a learning moment. We can always do better, but we can do our best when we do it with God.
God never wants us to live a life feeling defeated. Those negative thoughts are put in our minds to steal our joy. God wants us to live a prosperous and holy life in and with him. We must never forget that.
The compassion that God blesses us with every night is for us to know that each morning is a new day to show others the love God shows each of us. Each morning is a new day to be better than the day before. Each morning, we can start over, learn from our mistakes, and show kindness and compassion to all.
I can happily say instead of having negative thoughts flood my mind, I can now lay my head down at night and simply thank the Lord for all he has done. I think of all the good moments and what I am grateful for in the day. I ask for guidance on doing better the next day. I can end my day with the love and compassion of God, knowing that with God by my side each day, we can accomplish anything together.
If your mind does this to you too at night, I hope this can help you know that it doesn’t need to be that way. Think of at least five things you are grateful for in your day. Pray on that, love on that, and always show the love of God in you and through you for all to see.
