I, like many of you, have had my heart broken before. I used to wake up wondering if I would ever feel the love that I once felt ever again or if someone would ever feel that way about me again.
This type of mindset made me write off the whole idea for a while. Thinking that if I just wasn’t focused on it, the fear would fade away. However, it became more problematic instead. To the point that my dad (who doesn’t usually ever comment on stuff like this lol ) said something I won’t forget a couple of years ago. He said, “Paige, if you don’t ever give anyone a chance, then how do you expect to receive it?”
Ouch…true.
It definitely opened my eyes to the fact that I needed to give someone the time of day. But, at the same time, it took me a while to recognize who.
I ended up giving a guy a chance shortly after – as we dated, I felt so unsettled with the relationship because it didn’t bring me closer to Christ.
So, I sat with God and asked if it wasn’t His best for me; I needed Him to make it evident. When I did, he spoke so clearly, saying, ‘Your heart can’t be for me and with him at the same time.’
Not just once but multiple times.
That was exactly what I needed to hear to have peace and let the relationship go. But…I still longed to feel loved, valued, worthy, and enough.
I ended up dating someone else not too long after, and unfortunately, it was a similar type of situation.
And once again, I was asking God for clarity. Still, he was patient with me, tugged on my heartstrings even more, and said, Make more room for me.
So, I ended the relationship, and honestly, looking back now, I recognize it wasn’t as much that the men weren’t measuring up. It was the way I was looking for them to provide a love that only God can.
John 15:9
“As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Abide in my love.”
God was who I was looking for the whole time. He has been choosing me over and over, even when I failed to fully choose Him. He has shown me love that I could have never imagined, and he wants to do the same for you! I feel so content in His love, and I promise that no matter what you are feeling or going through right now, it is no match for the love He has in store for you. He is after your heart, friend!
